BIG HUGS!

image

Big hugs? Totez. You’ll get it that reference when you listen to Episode 5 of ‘You’re Welcome with Mel and Patience’, with special guest comedian Josh Earl! It’s out right now!  Woot Woot!  Josh did such a sweet job of giving a second opinion for the Tumblr that we just had to get him on the podcast. No, you’re welcome internet.

Patience made sandwiches, Mel brought baked snacks, Josh Earl brought his A Game and everything in the universe was right, these wheat based treats offered up as a pre podcast sacrifice pleased the podcast gods who showered the earth with podcast excellence and a nice snappy 35min episode.

In this ep we saw fit to award a question of the week! This week’s QOTW was from  Liam via our email: melandpatience at gmail dot com, it reads,

‘I have a bit of a dilemma…Basically I thought it would be interesting to write to an American prisoner and have them as a penpal. So after a few beers one night I found a prisoner pen pal website and wrote my first letter to a guy in a jail in Arizona’ It was all good and we wrote a few times and seemed to be getting on very well and it was all very interesting….I wrote my last letter to him a few months ago and have heard nothing back!! How busy can he really be in there??have I bored an actual prisoner??really?? Do I write again or just leave it? Advice please.’

Liam please contact us to receive your boner string prize for submitting such an excellent question.

Around these parts Thursday is Minutes day, it comes from the Greek ‘Thor’s Day’, which roughly translates as, ‘download our podcast please’.

Oh my! Who is that lovely young man in the picture? Oh him? That’s just Alex Dyson from Triple J Breakfast with Tom and Alex Woo! No big deal you guys (PS it’s a massive deal!!!!).

Patience rolled out the red carpet for one, Alex Dyson, we look after our guests but Alex Dyson is the first one to get spinach and ricotta savories and a lamington and cream roll!

You will note that Mrs Eyeball is featured in the above photo, her refusal to look at the camera was whack and she knows it.

Episode 15 of The Minutes was all about breaking the rules, Patience had rad stories about some Grates shows she played recently, and Mel went to The Black Lips concert and had some concerns about workplace health and safety.

One rule that shall remain unbroken, is that guests must tell us a fight story, Alex Dyson should work for FedEx, as he totez delivered. He told us two rad lil fight yarns! One from when he was in creche! Which is French for day care.

Hey if you’re in Brisbane you should swing by the Triple J Putin Party! tonight from 7pm at Oh Hello in The Valley. It’s free! Tom and Alex will be there, with The Grates, Nina Las Vegas, Ballpark Music, Megan Washington, Jaydos and Mel Buttle! Do come say hi to us!

YOU'RE WELCOME- SECOND OPINION WITH GUINEAFOWL

It’s out! Ep 3 of You’re Welcome with Mel and Patience has dropped! Patience and Mel love to give advice, and it turns out so do Guineafowl. This week we asked old mates Guineafowl to help us out with a second opinion on a pretty rad music question.

You’re Welcome listener @DrMubutu asked via Twitter: ‘I drunkenly agreed to audition for a drag role in a musical. What’re your song suggestions?’

On the podcast we did our best to answer this, but felt we needed a second opinion, so we got Immi from Guineafowl to give some advice and this is what she recommended:

“My first piece of advice would be to get drunk again before the audition. I say this not to promote alcohol consumption but purely to give you Dutch courage - most normal people would jump at the opportunity to be in the drag musical limelight and wouldn’t get drunk - but I fear you might need to..

You could always start with “I feel pretty” from Westside Story as this will allow you to explore your feminine side. Having done many musical theatre auditions and one actual production I find the use of props give you a real advantage. Try fake flowers (not real ones in case the judges are allergic) and even a simple chair to straddle whilst singing “All That Jazz” from Chicago.

But do not, DO NOT sing anything from The Sound Of Music.. Firstly, judges are sick of hearing these songs - I performed many of them at auditions and never got roles.. my singing and acting skills are fine so it must be the song. That’s what my mum said and she’s a wise woman.

Lastly, try lying and singing on a grand piano, this adds class but can be rather expensive if you damage it. That happened to a friend of mine.. I hope this helps Dr Mubutu.. use that as your stage name by the way.. It’s a keeper. I look forward to seeing you on Broadway”.

Thanks Immi! FYI Guineafowl was the fifth concert Mel had ever been too, she loved it pretty hard!

Guineafowl are with signed with Dew Process, the same label as The Grates!
