Item 2 on The Agenda: A Vote of Thanks

Hi, this is Mel and Patience talking to you, but some of this is in third person to make it sound more like we’re professional writer ladies, and less like this has been written on the floor in pyjamas.

Last week, Patience and Mel launched Episode 1 of ‘The Minutes’ podcast on the world, and by Patience and Mel, we actually mean John from The Grates. Who is an Internet wizard, and knows which computer buttons to press to make the podcast take off its invisibility cloak and be seen by the world in iTunes, thanks John!

Also thank you; yes you, sir/madam/highly intelligent super dog that’s hacked into your owners laptop to read this. We had a beaut little debut with ‘The Minutes’ peaking at number 3 in the Top Podcasts chart. What? I know! Number 3? Yep. Totez. For realsies. Our faces were stuck on yay face all last Thursday and Friday as we watched The Minutes chug up the iTunes chart, we were so surprised that we took even screen shots of our podcast when it hit number 3 (for our mum’s fridges).

It was a super exciting day; it was more exciting than when someone says ‘I can’t eat all these chips’. We wish to say a big thanks to everyone who downloaded it and then yapped about us on Twitter.

Last Thursday The Minutes was all over twitter, like glandular fever at a Blue Light Disco, thanks to your support.

We even got some lovely reviews:

“If a podcast was to drink milo. Eat organic donughts, and bathe in dugong oil it would turn into something as energetic and awesome as The Minutes is. Can’t wait for the next one!” Calum Scorgie, 5 stars.

“A synergistically witty pair of blatherers. Recommend you have a listen” Matredeemed, 5 stars.

And from Mel’s mum, ‘Well if the iTunes computer people think the home radio thing you make with that Patience girl is good, it must be, they know what they’re doing’. Ah Mum, thanks for trying.

Episode 2 will be out on 8 September! Woo! In episode 2 Patience tells Mel about the time she met Lil John/What happened on the set of The Grates new film clip ‘Sweet Dreams’?/ Mel lived with someone who kept chocolate under lock and key/ The girls discuss John Travolta’s departure from the Qantas Inflight Safety videos/ And heapz more.

In the meantime, catch Patience on Talkin Bout Your Generation Wednesday 31st August at 8.30pm on Network Ten with Josh Thomas, and if you’ve got foxtel, you do? Well, Patience is also hosting Channel [V] all this week. Lucky you, having foxtel and all, talk about flash.

Patience from The Grates and Comedian Mel Buttle to launch podcast!

Patience Hodgson from The Grates and comedian Mel Buttle have launched a new podcast for #vintagecardigancoolkids everywhere.

Patience is the charismatic frontwoman for chart-topping Aria-award-nominated Brisbane band The Grates, and Mel is the eczema suffering, self-deprecating rising star of radio and stand up. Together, they are new BFFs.

Like all good Gen Y kids they met on Twitter and bonded over a mutual love of tea, Mrs Crockett’s salads and all things vintage. The Minutes is their shiny new podcast the girls describe as “loose and homemade ”.

“I’ve been super keen to make a podcast for ages, I wanted somewhere to tell the stories that are too full on for radio and The Minutes is the perfect place for them, our podcast is about LOL’s and ROFL’s and sometimes waffles,” says Mel.

“Basically it’s an excuse for us to hang out, drink tea, eat biscuits, we’ve pressed record on our couch catch-ups and here is the result. It’s the best collaboration this country has seen since Maggie Beer and Simon,” jokes Mel.

“It was a dream come true when Mel agreed to make a podcast with me, as I have been a huge fan of hers for ages. Practically a stalker.” said Patience.

When not shooting the breeze with Mel Buttle, Patience can be found touring like a banshee fronting The Grates and lovingly plugging their new album ‘Secret Rituals’ across the country. The Grates will be touring nationally in October/ November on their Summer’s Breath Tour.

In addition to eating biscuits with Patience, Mel Buttle appears weekly on Triple J with Tom and Alex and writes a weekly column for The Courier Mail. Mel will be touring regional Australia with her pal comedian Josh Thomas in September/October.

Pae and Mel hope you like it, they made it themselves!
